Nauti but ice
I think there must have been rocket fuel in the coffee I had in Porthleven. My Sunday café ride with Truro CC started out as a gentle pace. Almost direct out and back route, imagine a slim oval shaped loop.
This wasn't as hill free as Jerry's Penzance highway express, but we did take the northern route around Stithian Reservoir. There's a cracking strava segment along the bridge which looks like a segment and feels like a flamme rouge.
Our route along the B3297 was uneventful and there weren't many cars. Sometimes that's what you want as a cyclist, it's quiet and you can relax into your ride.
Once we arrived into Porthleven it was really spectacular. Apparently during massive storms the village tower is a popular photo opportunity. The clock tower is frequently hit by giant waves.
We had a debate about which café to go to. Which featured a discussion around what people look for in cafés. Cathy said that she can tolerate a poor quality tea more than so than a crappy coffee. I personally focus on a good cappuccino and recently I'm all about lemon cake.
The coffee here was nice, perhaps I should have asked for it to be warmer. The cake was amazing and I finished it off without being too mindful of it. Dominic had eggs and tomatoes, which came with an entire vine of cherry tomatoes. That got maximum points from me, I was very impressed. They also sell roskilleys ice cream here, which is a fantastic cornish ice cream.
Now, the way home was eventful. We took a beautiful coastal route along beacon road out of Porthleven. The only time I took a selfie on the bike. The road was straight and invited attacks and hard efforts. I went for it on several occasions. Then there were some strong hill segments that a few of the guys were familiar with. I desperately tried to keep up and my inexperience got the better of me.
When we arrived into chasewater we had been increased our pace by about 10kph, and the road into Truro was even faster. I was holding on for dear life. My legs drained. My energy used up. This is my favourite kind of ride. I managed to make it home and it was a definite workout.

- I really recommend beacon road out of Porthleven. There were some pubs that smelt like a roast dinner in Breage, which is just north of town. So perhaps a loop with food and ice cream would be great for the bigger cyclist.
